Description: Calciumphos is the complementary feed especially conceived for foals, lactating mares and mares in foal. It contains substances, such as calcium, phosphorus and vitamin B12, and important amino acids, such as L-lysine and L-threonine, which are fundamental to maintain and improve the well-being of horses' skeletal and muscular systems. After the 7th month of pregnancy, Calciumphos is particularly useful in order to provide pregnant mares with the minerals the foal needs to grow up properly.
When to use Calciumphos: Calciumphos is specifically formulated in order to improve calcium and phosphorus bioavailability in foals, pregnant and lactating mares and strengthen their bones, thus bettering their resistance to mechanical stresses.
Properties of its constituents: Calciumphos is a blend of calcium (from calcium lactate) and phosphorus (from monocalcium phosphate, the only source of water-soluble phosphorus), enriched with vitamin B12 and amino acids, such as L-lysine and L-threonine. Vitamin B12 facilitates the growth in foals with growth delay. Food of plant origin completely lacks this vitamin, which, therefore, has to be added to growing horses' diets. Vitamin B12 is fundamental for young horses' growth, for it stimulates protein metabolism and the synthesis of nucleic acids (31, 60). Moreover, it is generally acknowledged that vitamin B12 plays a significant role in reproduction and in embryonic development. L-lysine is the primary essential amino acid and helps mares stay toned after giving birth. Finally, L-lysine and L-threonine are crucial for all horses resuming competitive activity after a break.
Use and dosage:
Foals: Administer 50-100 g of Calciumphos per day, properly mixed with the daily ration, for at least 90-120 consecutive days. Calciumphos has to be administered to foals for at least 3-4 months after weaning.
Mares in foal: From the 6th or 7th month of pregnancy on, administer 100 g of Calciumphos per day, properly mixed with the daily ration.
Lactating mares: Administer 150 g of Calciumphos per day, properly mixed with the daily ration. Calciumphos has to be administered for at least 90 consecutive days and, anyway, until the foal is weaned.
