Description: Hepa-horse is the complementary feed formulated on the basis of our knowledge of human phytotherapy in order to
help hepatic cells maintain proper liver function. The equine liver is subjected to an intense workload, for it is in charge of all energy metabolism reactions, of the absorption of several vitamins and of the transformation of toxic metabolites into useful substances (for example it transforms homocysteine into methionine).
When to use Hepa-horse: Hepa-horse is very useful to help purify the liver, especially during convalescence after pharmacological treatments and alimentary intoxications.
Properties of its constituents: Hepa-horse is a complementary feed containing extracts of milk thistle’s fruits, which contain a high concentration of silymarin. In human phytotherapy, this substance is known for its hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties. Nowadays, milk thistle is considered the most powerful substance regenerating liver cells and the hepatoprotective plant by definition. Its phytocomplex can protect the liver from damages caused by toxic substances and has a significant antioxidant effect. Silymarin accelerates protein biosynthesis, thus stimulating the regeneration of liver cells (94). Hepa-horse also contains DL-methionine, an essential amino acid that has several functions in the body, including protein synthesis and the production of S-Adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe), which is essential to detoxify the organism. Methionine is a glucogenic amino acid that plays a role in increasing the body's energy reserves, thus improving horses’ health (67).
Use and dosage: Administer 30-60 g of Hepa-horse per day, properly mixed with the daily ration, for at least 25-30 consecutive days.
This product does not cause any adverse reaction. Nevertheless, since every organism has its own peculiarities, dietary supplements, feeds and complementary feeds should always be introduced in a horse’s diet gradually, in order to evaluate the product’s effects on the horse.
