Description: Elytes is the complementary feed, composed of a blend of entirely water-soluble electrolyte salts, especially conceived to facilitate post-work recovery and the absorption of the salts lost through perspiration.
When to use Elytes: Administer Elytes to rehydrate the horse, thus ensuring its post-work recovery and an anti-fatigue effect.
Properties of its constituents: Horses lost electrolytes through sweat to get rid of the heat generated by muscle contraction. Their sweat is hypertonic, which means that its salt concentration is far higher than blood's one. Therefore, considerable sweating leads to huge loss of sodium, potassium, chlorine, magnesium and calcium that need to be restored quickly to prevent listlessness, muscle cramps and other disorders. That is exactly Elytes' aim. Elytes is supplemented with L-glycine, an amino acid also known as glycocoll, which accelerates the restoration in cells of the salts lost through perspiration. L-glycine is the simplest amino acid known: it accelerates the restoration of electrolyte salts in cells and plays a primary role in the synthesis of proteins, ATP, glutathione and glycogen. Therefore, it is considered a new antioxidant (4). Elytes' formula does not contain vitamins.
Use and dosage: Administer 60 g of Elytes per day, properly mixed with the daily ration, in order to restore the salts lost through perspiration. It is suggested to increase the dose up to 90-120 g per day in case of prolonged efforts or competitive activities and, in particular, during hot seasons.
